Gary Vaynerchuk Predicts Basketball Cards Will Outperform Sneaker Reselling
Tech investor, social media influencer, and CEO of VaynerMedia and VaynerSports, Gary Vaynerchuk, is very bullish on trading cards.
While Gary has become a sensation for predicting trends in the marketplace and capitalizing on user behavior, Gary Vaynerchuk feels very strongly about the future of trading cards. Gary has even gone as far to team up with Topps to create a curated set called the "garyvee direct 360."
"I do believe that in the next 24 – 36 months, we are going to see enormous growth in the sports card market. Even more than what we’ve seen in the past 2 – 3 years," said Gary. "I think the next 2-3 years will be white hot in the sports card market, and then there will be a “tapering off” just like there is in any supply and demand market around something that’s not an essential need. I believe over the next few decades, the “classics” (the Jordan, Kareem, and Dr J rookies) and the emerging classics (LeBron, Kobe, and Durant) will be the ones to grow slowly in value."
In the video below (video starts at 6:57), Gary Vaynerchuk talks about how he believes basketball cards will outperform sneaker reselling.
Why does Gary Vaynerchuk love sports cards?
Despite growing up and selling sports cards on the weekend, Gary feels that kids that flip sneakers will start to sell sports cards. Due to the limited supply of sneakers, kids will graduate to flipping cards.
Gary also explains the nostalgia of sports card loves from the 1980s, now have kids of their own.
